Barret Jackman signs with Predators after 13 seasons with Blues

The Predators signed veteran defenseman Barret Jackman to a two-year, $4 million contract Wednesday, adding to a haul that includes the addition of Cody Hodgson and the return of Mike Ribeiro.

Jackman has played his entire 13-year career with the St. Louis Blues and is second in franchise history in games played (803 regular season, 39 postseason), passing Brian Sutter in February. The Blues' 1999 first-round draft pick (17th overall), Jackman is the organization's only Calder Trophy winner.

He was in the final year of a three-year, $9.5 million contract.

The Predators began Tuesday by re-signing Ribeiro on a two-year, $7 million contract. Ribeiro had 15 goals and 47 assists for the Predators last season.

Nashville also agreed to a one-year contract with center Cody Hodgson, who was bought out by the Buffalo Sabres after a disappointing season in which he finished with just 13 points in 78 games.

The Predators also acquired forward Max Reinhart from the Calgary Flames for a conditional fourth-round draft pick.

While durable, the 34-year-old Jackman isn't much of a scorer, totaling 27 career goals and 153 assists. He played in 80 games in 2014-15, scoring two goals, adding 13 assists and racking up 47 penalty minutes. He averaged 13 minutes of ice time but had no points in six postseason games against the Minnesota Wild.
