USA Today released its annual coach salary database Wednesday, which led off with Michigan's Jim Harbaugh earning just north of $9 million. It's a staggering salary for a college football coach, but another set of numbers might be just as revealing: the buyouts.
Some coaches whom fans are grumbling about might be saved by buyouts, since it's won't be cheap to part ways after the 2016 season. It's important to note that most buyouts can be mitigated and since most fired coaches get new jobs, the overall amount owed to them gets reduced over time. So the worst situation is paying a big buyout to someone who never lands another seven-figure coaching job.
