The search for the next Tom Herman might be a pointless pursuit. Few coaches have the qualities to make a rise such as Herman's, from Rice offensive coordinator in 2008 to Iowa State offensive coordinator in 2011 to Texas head coach in late November.
But there's a group of younger Group of 5 head coaches (45 and under) and Power 5 coordinators (40 and under) who have positioned themselves for bigger opportunities in the near future. Although the most recent coaching cycle featured few Power 5 openings, the next one could be more robust, particularly in the Pac-12 and SEC.
