How 2016 recruits compare

Chances are that in four or five years, many prospects in the 2016 ESPN 300 will be going through the NFL draft process. Some of those recruits compare favorably, in measurables (size, speed, combine testing, etc.) and style of play, to players ranked in Todd McShay's Top 32 2015 draft prospects.

QB Jameis Winston, Florida State

Measurable comparison: K.J. Costello (ESPN 300: 35) -- Like Winston, Costello has an athletically built 6-foot-4 frame, with room to fill out. Winston is up to the 230-pound range, which Costello should reach in time as his body continues to physically develop. Durability was not an issue with the Heisman Trophy winner and shouldn't be with Costello as he possesses similarly strong pocket stature.

Scouting comparison: Feleipe' Franks (ESPN 300: 55) -- Winston was extremely talented but also extremely raw out of high school. Franks is similar in that regard; both have long deliveries but quick-snap releases. Both Winston and Franks are sneaky-good but not great athletes, and both have a feel for the game around them and the ability to improvise and make plays. Like Winston as a college prospect, Franks has loads of upside -- not just as a dual-threat guy, but also as a passer who can beat you from within the pocket if he continues to develop that side of his game.
