The pros and cons of extending Nick Foles

NFL

As the Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson continue to try to find middle ground on a contract extension (one that will take him from the game's best bargain to one of its highest-paid players), another negotiation involving an NFC West quarterback looks ready to commence.

The Rams are reportedly ready to talk numbers with Nick Foles, taken just 13 slots behind Wilson in the 2012 draft.

And while there is no debate about the merits of an extension for Wilson -- he's 26 and already has two trips to the Super Bowl under his belt -- Foles is a different story. He threw just 13 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions in 2014 and is coming off of a season-ending shoulder injury.

He put up a remarkable stat line in 2013, setting the NFL single season record for TD-INT ratio at 27-2. But the truth of the matter is that the jury is still out on whether Foles is a true franchise quarterback.

Let's look at the proposition from two sides -- why the Rams would want to do a deal now versus the risk and downside involved with doing so.
