Guide to the NHL trade deadline: Metropolitan Division

With the NHL trade deadline looming Feb. 29, Hockey Prospectus is previewing this season's mad scramble with a look at every team's status as buyer or seller, potential trade targets and top assets to sell.

While the Washington Capitals are running away with the Metropolitan Division, there is a battle brewing for the final guaranteed playoff spot, as the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes are separated by three points in the standings.

As we approach the deadline, however, the competing teams won't all be in the market for the big names on the trade block.
