UNC-Wilmington beats UNC-Greensboro 84-72

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Craig Ponder made all four of his 3-point attempts and tied his career-high with 26 points to lead UNC-Wilmington past UNC-Greensboro 84-72 on Tuesday night.

It was coach Kevin Keatts' first win at the helm for Wilmington.

Dylan Sherwood hit four of his six 3-pointers for Wilmington (1-1) and finished with 16 points. Freddie Jackson added 13 as the Seahawks made 32 of 49 (65.3 percent) of their field goals.

Greensboro (1-1) was led by Kayel Locke with 22 points, 12 coming from the free-throw line, and Tevon Saddler and RJ White had 16 apiece. The Spartans made 20 of 33 free throws (60.6 percent), compared to 10 of 15 for Wilmington.

Greensboro got within 67-64, but Ponder scored the next seven to give Wilmington a 74-64 lead with 5:13 left. The Seahawks went 6 for 6 from the line in the final minute to seal it.
