Furman outpaces Appalachian State 84-65

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Kris Acox scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Furman to an 84-65 win over Appalachian State on Wednesday night.

Furman (1-1) opened with a 15-3 run bookended by a pair of Stephen Croone 3-pointers to build a lead that was never challenged by its former Southern Conference foe. The Paladins carried a 47-30 advantage into the break, then continued to pull away in the second half. It was Acox's first career double-double.

Croone, Larry Wideman and Kendrec Ferrara scored 12 points apiece for Furman, which shot 54.7 percent from the field and led by as many 26 points midway through the second half. William Gates Jr. added 10 points.

Frank Eaves scored a career-high 20 points for Appalachian State (0-2), which now plays in the Sun Belt Conferene. Tommy Spagnolo had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers.
