Northwestern States slips past Louisiana-Lafayette 89-85

NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Zeek Woodley had 20 points and Jalan West added 19 with 10 assists as Northwestern State held on for an 89-85 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

Marvin Frazier had 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds and Sabri Thompson contributed 12 points for Northwestern State (4-5).

Trailing 66-60, Louisiana-Lafayette's Johnathan Stove completed a three-point play, Devonta Walker added a layup and four free throws and Kasey Shepherd hit a jump shot to take a 71-70 lead with 7:09 left. Ta'Jon Welcome answered with a 3-pointer and Woodley drove for a layup and followed with a jumper to retake the lead for good.

UL Lafayette won the rebound battle 49-38 but the Demons made 35 of 72 field goal attempts while limiting the Ragin' Cajuns to 29-of-67 shooting.

Walker had career-highs of 23 points and 19 rebounds, Kasey Shepherd added 18 points and Jay Wright chipped in 12 for Louisiana-Lafayette (6-5).
