Locke leads UNCG over Jacksonville 71-69

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Kayel Locke had 19 points, including nine straight late, plus a key rebound, as UNC Greensboro beat Jacksonville 71-69 at the Spartan Showcase on Sunday.

Marcel White scored to open the second half to put Jacksonville (2-5) up 40-30. Two Clay Byrd 3-pointers gave UNCG (3-3) the lead, 56-54 with 9:13 remaining. The Spartans clung to the lead and Locke's nine straight points gave them a 69-63 edge with 1:16 remaining.

Josh Adeyeye hit a 3-pointer for the Dolphins to cut it to three. UNCG's Diante Baldwin missed a jumper but Locke got the rebound and Jacksonville had to foul, sending Baldwin to the line. Baldwin made both free throws. Darius Dawkins hit a 3-pointer, cutting it to 71-69 with 12 seconds left. But coming out of a timeout, Jacksonville was unable to foul.

UNCG's Marvin Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Kori Babineaux led Jacksonville with 17 points.
