PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have reinstated outfielder Cody Ross from the disabled list and designated left-handed reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith for assignment.
Ross sustained a dislocated hip while running to first base against the New York Mets last Aug. 11. He underwent surgery and was back working out far sooner than had been anticipated.
Ross batted .278 with 17 doubles, eight home runs and 36 RBIs in 94 games for the Diamondbacks last season. Ross gives Arizona five outfielders on its roster.
Rowland-Smith, an Australian, appeared in six games for Arizona this season, posting a 4.91 ERA.
