Reds to replace third base coach Steve Smith
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds have decided to replace third base coach Steve Smith. The rest of the staff is expected to return following a rough season.
Smith joined the Reds last season. He worked in the Mariners' system with Bryan Price, who was promoted to manager last season. The Reds did not announce his replacement on Monday.
Bench coach Jay Bell was a candidate for the managing job in Arizona, but the Diamondbacks gave it to third base coach Chip Hale. He'll return next for season.
The Reds lost 86 games this year and finished ahead of only the Cubs in the NL Central, their worst result since 2008.
