Seattle claims Olmos off waivers from Miami
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners claimed left-hander Edgar Olmos off waivers from Miami on Thursday and added three others to their 40-man roster.
The Mariners selected right-hander Mayckol Guaipe, catcher John Hicks, and infielder Ketel Marte for their major league roster.
The Mariners also acquired right-hander Sam Gaviglio from St. Louis in exchange for minor league infielder Ty Kelly. Gaviglio pitched for Double-A Springfield this past season.
Olmos, 24, pitched at Double- and Triple-A this year. He appeared in five games for Miami late in the 2013 season.
Guaipe, 24, spent the 2014 season at Double-A Jackson and made 40 relief appearances. Hicks, 25, split last season between Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma, hitting .290 with five homers and 47 RBIs in 81 games.
Marte, 21, was a Southern League All-Star after hitting .302 at Jackson before a late promotion to Tacoma. Marte was third among all Seattle minor leaguers in batting average and hits.
