Red Sox contracts with Sandoval and Ramirez
BOSTON -- Terms of the agreements the Boston Red Sox announced Tuesday with Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez:
SANDOVAL:
A $3 million signing bonus payable by Jan. 15. Salaries of $17 million in each of the first three seasons and $18 million apiece in 2018 and `19. Boston has a $17 million option for 2020 with a $5 million buyout. Within 30 days of the deal's approval by Major League Baseball, Sandoval can designate three teams he can't be traded to without his consent.
RAMIREZ:
A $3 million signing bonus, half payable by Jan. 15 and the rest by March 15. Salaries of $19 million next year and $22 million in each of the final three seasons. The deal includes a $22 million option for 2019 that would become guaranteed if Ramirez has 1,050 regular-season plate appearances in 2017-18 combined and passes a club physical when the Red Sox complete their 2018 season. He receives the same limited no-trade provision as Sandoval.
