LEADING OFF: Kershaw, Wainwright readying for opening day
A look at what's happening around spring training in Florida and Arizona Thursday:
---
TOUGH JAW
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is set to start against the White Sox at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. In his outing March 20, the left-hander was struck on the jaw by a line drive. He lost one tooth and part of another.
READY TO GO
Adam Wainwright will make his second spring start when St. Louis hosts Henderson Alvarez and the Marlins in Jupiter, Florida. Wainwright was sidelined for about a month with an abdominal strain, but he is still on track to get the ball on opening night April 5 for the Cardinals at the Chicago Cubs.
SHOULDERING UP
Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers, who has been sidelined with shoulder soreness for a week, is scheduled to face the Mariners at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.
GOING AGIN
Tigers reliever Joe Nathan is supposed to pitch a second straight day for the first time this spring, this outing against the Orioles in Lakeland, Florida. He gave up two hits in a scoreless inning vs. Miami on Wednesday. "I felt so good today," Nathan said. "It felt good coming out of my hand and I knew I could beat guys with my fastball. The difference was night and day compared to the last time out."
