PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have hired Dave Magadan as their hitting coach.
The 53-year-old Magadan spent the last three seasons as hitting coach of the Texas Rangers. Before that, he was hitting coach for the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox.
In Magadan's first year in Boston, 2007, the Red Sox won the World Series.
He played in 1,582 games over 15 major league seasons with seven clubs.
Magadan replaces Turner Ward, who resigned to pursue another opportunity.
