Mudiay scores 17, Nuggets down Dallas 96-86

DALLAS -- Emmanuel Mudiay scored nine of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, and the Denver Nuggets beat the Dallas Mavericks 96-86 on Tuesday night.

Mudiay, Denver's first-round draft pick, had five assists and seven turnovers.

Joffrey Lauvergne scored 11 of his 14 points in the first quarter, when the Nuggets (1-1) took a 30-16 lead they didn't lose.

Lauvergne, bidding for playing time while starting center Yusuf Nurkic recovers from a torn patellar tendon, led Denver with 11 rebounds.

Kenneth Faried had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Denver, while Gary Harris and ex-Maverick Jameer Nelson scored 12 each.

Charlie Villanueva had 18 points and eight rebounds while John Jenkins scored 16 and Devin Harris 14.

Dirk Nowitzki did not play in the Mavericks' preseason opener.
