NEW YORK -- Mike Krzyzewski earned his 1,000th career win Sunday, making him the first NCAA Division I men's coach to reach the milestone, when No. 5 Duke surged past St. John's for a 77-68 victory at Madison Square Garden.

Krzyzewski reached four figures on his first try. He improved to 1,000-308 in a 40-year coaching career that began in 1975 at his alma mater, Army.

Coach K is 927-249 in 35 seasons at Duke, guiding the Blue Devils to four NCAA titles and 11 trips to the Final Four.

Tyus Jones scored 22 points and the Blue Devils (17-2) went on an 18-2 run down the stretch. Jahlil Okafor had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Sir'Dominic Pointer had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Storm (13-6).

No. 2 VIRGINIA 50, VIRGINIA TECH 47

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Justin Anderson scored eight of his 12 points during a late 12-0 run and No. 2 Virginia edged Virginia Tech.

Virginia (19-0, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed 43-33 in the second half.

Adam Smith's long 3-point try spun around the inside of the rim, then popped back out as time expired. He scored 15 for the Hokies (8-11, 0-6).

No. 4 VILLANOVA 71, CREIGHTON 50

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Darrun Hilliard scored a season-high 24 points to lead No. 4 Villanova over Creighton.

Ryan Arcidiacono added 10 points for the Wildcats (18-2, 5-2 Big East), which rebounded from one of its worst performances of the season -- Monday's 78-58 defeat at Georgetown.

James Milliken had 13 points for the Bluejays (9-12, 0-8), who lost their ninth straight game.

No. 8 NOTRE DAME 81, NORTH CAROLINA STATE 78, OT

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jerian Grant scored 25 points and blocked a last-second shot that helped No. 8 Notre Dame beat North Carolina State.

The Fighting Irish (19-2, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) erased an 18-point first-half deficit, rallied in the final minute to force overtime, then made the decisive stop in the extra session to win their fourth straight.

Trevor Lacey scored 13 points for N.C. State (13-8, 4-4).

No. 10 LOUISVILLE 80, PITTSBURGH 68

PITTSBURGH -- Terry Rozier scored 26 points and No. 10 Louisville pulled away from Pittsburgh.

Montrezl Harrell added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals (16-3, 4-2 ACC).

Jamel Artis led the Panthers (13-7, 3-4) with 18 points and eight rebounds.

NO. 12 UTAH 77, WASHINGTON 56

SALT LAKE CITY -- Dakarai Tucker scored a career-high 19 points, Brandon Taylor added 14 and No. 12 Utah beat Washington.

Tucker and Taylor combined to make eight 3-pointers to give the Utes (16-3, 6-1 Pac-12) their 15th straight home victory dating to last season. All six of Utah's Pac-12 conference wins have come by double-digit margins.

Andrew Andrews had 19 points to lead Washington. Robert Upshaw chipped in 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks for the Huskies (14-5, 3-4) who snapped a three-game winning streak.

NO. 13 MARYLAND 68, NORTHWESTERN 67

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Melo Trimble scored 27 points, and a tip-in by Dez Wells with 1.4 seconds left capped a furious comeback that enabled No. 13 Maryland to squeeze past Northwestern.

The Terrapins (18-3, 6-2 Big Ten) never led until Trimble made two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to make it 66-65. After Tre Demps hit a jumper for the Wildcats, Trimble missed a 3-point try and Wells snared the rebound before scoring with a layup off the glass.

Northwestern (10-10, 1-6) called timeout but could not get off a shot before the buzzer sounded.

No. 14 WICHITA STATE 74, DRAKE 40

WICHITA, Kan. -- Ron Baker scored 15 points and No. 14 Wichita State breezed past Drake for its 26th straight win in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Tekele Cotton added 10 points for the Shockers (18-2, 8-0). No one played more than 28 minutes for Wichita State.

Reed Timmer topped Drake (4-16, 1-7) with eight points.

No. 20 NORTHERN IOWA 54, ILLINOIS STATE 53

NORMAL, Ill. -- Nate Buss hit a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left and No. 20 Northern Iowa edged Illinois State.

Northern Iowa (18-2, 8-1 Missouri Valley) overcame a 12-point deficit in the final 11 minutes. Seth Tuttle scored 21 for the Panthers and Jeremy Morgan made three steals and blocked a shot down the stretch.

Daishon Knight drove the lane at the end for Illinois State (12-8, 4-4), but his short shot hit the bottom of the rim as the horn sounded.

OHIO STATE 82, No. 23 INDIANA 70

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- D'Angelo Russell scored 22 points and added 10 assists, Jae'Sean Tate added a career-high 20 points, and Ohio State defeated No. 23 Indiana.

The Buckeyes (16-5, 5-3 Big Ten) won consecutive games for the first time since beating in-state foes Miami and Wright State in late December.

Indiana (15-5, 5-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped despite 26 points from junior guard Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell.

BUTLER 77, No. 24 SETON HALL 57

INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrew Chrabascz scored 15 of his 16 points in the first half to lead Butler past No. 24 Seton Hall.

Kellen Dunham added 15 points and Roosevelt Jones had 12 and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-6, 5-3 Big East).

Brandon Mobley finished with 15 points and Desi Rodriquez added 12 for the Pirates (13-6, 3-4) in their season-high third straight loss.
