Akron pulls away from Charleston Southern for 82-58 win
AKRON, Ohio -- Josh Williams scored 11 of his 14 points in a decisive second-half run that carried Akron past Charleston Southern 82-58 Friday night.
Patrick Wallace's 3-pointer pulled the Buccaneers to within 40-38 with 17:11 to play.
But Akron (4-2) responded with a 22-3 run capped by a Williams 3 to make it 62-41 with 10:42 remaining.
The Zips' Reggie McAdams added 14 points shooting 5 for 7 from the field, Aaron Jackson added 13 points and Pat Forsythe had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Armel Potter led Charleston Southern (2-4) with 18 points and was 8-for-14 shooting. Wallace had 14 points and shot 4 for 5 from 3-point range.
Akron appeared as if it would run away early when Adam Jackson's 3 made the score 15-5. But the Buccaneers fought back when Potter's 3 cut the lead to 24-20 with 7:17 remaining before halftime.
Akron committed just five turnovers in the contest.
