PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Syracuse's Malachi Richardson, who last month entered his name into the NBA draft to get a sense of his chances at being selected, has decided to forgo his college career after excelling at the NBA combine.

Orange coach Jim Boeheim says he hopes Richardson gets a good draft position.

Richardson, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Trenton, New Jersey, averaged 13.4 points as a freshman for the Orange, second on the team. Richardson also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 36.9 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent on 3-pointers.

Richardson played an important role in Syracuse's march to the NCAA Final Four with a standout performance against top-seeded Virginia in a regional final. He scored 21 points in the second half as the Orange rallied after trailing by 16 in the second half.
