SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers have hired former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan as linebackers coach.
Nolan most recently had been the Atlanta Falcons' defensive coordinator.
He replaces Joe Barry, who was hired as Washington's defensive coordinator.
Nolan coached the 49ers from 2005 until being fired after a 2-5 start in 2008. Overall the 49ers were 18-37 under Nolan.
