Clemson places 3 on Walter Camp list

Who is the best football player on Clemson? Who is the best college football player in the nation?

It could be one in the same in 2016.

Clemson placed three players on the 40-man Walter Camp Award watch list in quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Wayne Gallman and tight end Jordan Leggett on Friday. The Walter Camp Award goes to the nation's top football player while the foundation also selects first and second All-America teams. Clemson is the only school with three players on the watch list.

Watson was a 2015 second-team All-America selection by Walter Camp and passed for 4,104 yards and 35 touchdowns while rushing for 1,105 yards and 12 touchdowns. Watson is also on the Davey O'Brien Award watch list for the nation's top quarterback.

Leggett was also a second-team All-America by Walter Camp last year with 40 receptions for 525 yards and eight touchdowns. Leggett was named to the Mackey Award watch list for nation's top tight end last week and was a finalist for that award last season.

Gallman was second in the ACC last season in rushing with 1,527 yards with 13 touchdowns. He was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list last week for the nation's top running back.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in mid-November. The 2016 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 128 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN's SportsCenter on Thursday, Dec. 8.
