Stanford's Christian McCaffrey to return for Colorado game

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford star running back Christian McCaffrey will return from an undisclosed injury to play in the Cardinal's game against Colorado on Saturday, coach David Shaw said.

McCaffrey missed the Cardinal's 17-10 win over Notre Dame last week after leaving in the second half of their 42-16 loss to Washington State two weeks ago. He did not limp off the field, but Shaw said McCaffrey was "banged up" ever since that departure.

The reigning Associated Press National Player of the Year returned to practice in a limited role late this week, and Shaw publicly cleared him to play an hour-and-a-half before kickoff against Colorado.

No team has used an offensive playmaker on a greater percentage of its plays than Stanford has used McCaffrey this year. The running back and returner has racked up 941 all-purpose yards in the five games that he has played.

The Buffaloes' much-improved rushing defense has allowed only 3.9 yards per rush this year.
