Gators RB Jordan Cronkrite to transfer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators running back Jordan Cronkrite has decided to transfer, leaving after a sophomore season in which his role diminished significantly.

Cronkrite carried 31 times for 145 yards and a touchdown, finishing fourth on the team behind Jordan Scarlett, Lamical Perine and Mark Thompson.

Dealing with a leg injury and displeased with his spot on the depth chart, Cronkrite did not travel to Jacksonville to play rival Georgia in late October. He returned to the team the following week.

"We will do everything we can to support and assist him and help him get what he wants," Florida coach Jim McElwain said in a statement Thursday.

A 5-foot-11, 204-pound Miami native, Cronkrite had 44 carries for 157 yards and three scores as a freshman playing behind Kelvin Taylor. Cronkrite had been expected to share the workload with Scarlett in 2016, but ended up part of a four-man backfield that eventually turned into Scarlett and everyone else.
