Alumni teams from Syracuse, Kansas, Indiana and Marquette highlight the Super 16 field in The Basketball Tournament. Also participating for $2 million are polarizing, trash-talking Ole Miss star Marshall Henderson (2012-14) and Arizona 1997 national champion Mike Bibby (1996-98), among other former college stars.
Syracuse's alums, also known as Boeheim's Army, advanced on Sunday behind key performances from Eric Devendorf (2005-09), CJ Fair (2010-14) and Hakim Warrick (2001-05). Devendorf tallied 19 points while Fair added 13 and Warrick scored 12 in Sunday's win. The Northeast's No. 2-seeded Boeheim's Army will next take the floor on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2, notes Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com.
If Boeheim's Army win Thursday, there's a chance they could face a team comprised of Kansas alumni in the next round of the Northeast region bracket. The Jayhawks' squad is led by Tyshawn Taylor (2008-12), who scored 18 points on Sunday. The Kansas alums will first have to get by a pair of former Cincinnati stars: DerMarr Johnson (1999-00) and James White (2003-06). Johnson sank 6-of-11 3-point attempts and scored 27 points on Sunday.
The Midwest region is highlighted by a Super 16 matchup between Indiana and Marquette alumni. Marquette alums Dwight Buycks (2009-11) and Jamil Wilson (2011-14) led the way with 27 and 22 points, respectively, in Sunday's win against former Michigan State players. The Hoosiers' squad includes Jordan Hulls (2009-13), Will Sheehey (2010-14) and Christian Watford (2009-13), plus Butler's Roosevelt Jones (2011-16). Hulls contributed 12 points and five assists in Sunday's win.
Pedro's Posse, one of the field's most star-studded rosters, was led by former Sacramento King and Arizona Wildcat Mike Bibby (12 points on Sunday) and fellow ex-King and Florida Gator Jason Williams (6 assists).
The South and West regions were off this past weekend, but alums from Ole Miss (including Henderson), Gonzaga, Utah, VCU and Bradley will resume play in the Super 16 this week.
