John Collins to test draft waters after breakout season at Wake Forest

Wake Forest forward John Collins is ready to be evaluated for the NBA draft, but he isn't giving up his college eligibility just yet.

"After a lot of thought, I have decided to declare for the NBA draft, but not hire an agent," Collins said Wednesday in a statement. "This allows me the opportunity to be evaluated by teams over the next few weeks and gather information from them.

"I want to make an informed decision about what is best for my future, whether that is turning pro at this time or returning to Wake Forest for my junior season."

The 6-foot-10 sophomore made a huge jump this past season. After averaging 7.3 points and 3.9 rebounds as a freshman, he averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 boards and went from someone who wasn't even on draft boards to a likely first-round pick, numerous NBA executives told ESPN.
