The Cincinnati Reds on Monday announced that left-hander John Lamb is expected to miss the start of the 2017 season after undergoing back surgery.

Lamb, 26, had a lumbar disk herniation repaired -- his second back operation in as many seasons. He also had back surgery in December 2015 and didn't join the Reds until May of 2016, making three rehab starts at Triple-A Louisville before returning from the disabled list.

Lamb was 1-7 in 14 appearances for the Reds last season. He posted a 6.43 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, striking out 58 and walking 31 in 70 innings.
