Report: D-backs sign RHP Fernando Rodney to incentive-laden 1-year deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to an incentive-laden one-year, $2.75 million contract with veteran reliever Fernando Rodney, according to FanRag Sports.

The Diamondbacks, who ended 2016 with a 69-93 record, 22 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, plan to use Rodney as a closer, according to the site.

The 39-year-old reliever had a 5.89 ERA and eight saves in 39 games after being acquired by theĀ Miami Marlins in a June trade with the San Diego PadresĀ for minor league right-hander Chris Paddack.

Rodney made his third All-Star team last season and finished 2-4 with a 3.44 ERA and 25 saves. The right-hander has 261 career saves and a 3.69 ERA in 14 major league seasons.
