Rockies OF David Dahl out 'week or two' with back injury

Colorado Rockies outfielder David Dahl's back injury is more serious than the team initially thought, manager Bud Black told The Denver Post on Friday.

Dahl was scratched from the lineup Monday because of back soreness and initially was expected to miss a few days. However, Black said Friday that the Rockies currently don't have a timetable for how long the 22-year-old Dahl will be sidelined.

"We first said David would be out a couple of days, but it's going to be longer than that, for sure," Black told The Denver Post. "I don't have a timetable on it, but it could be a week or two. There are some things going on with his back. David is undergoing some tests and scans and treatment to see what is going on.

"We do think he's going to be fine, but it's going to take longer than we first thought. Like I said, we don't have a real timetable on this."

Dahl is battling with veteran Gerardo Parra for the Rockies' starting job in left field this spring training.

Dahl was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft and enjoyed a solid start to his major league career last season, batting .315 with seven home runs in his first 63 games with the Rockies.
