Phillies' Rhys Hoskins smashes 10th career HR vs. Cubs to make MLB history

MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Rhys Hoskins, playing in his 17th career major league game, hit his 10th home run in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday night's 17-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Hoskins has homered in four straight games and seven of his past eight. All 10 home runs have come since Aug. 14 -- more than the Washington Nationals (seven HRs) and the San Francisco Giants (six HRs) and as many as the San Diego Padres and the Kansas City Royals in that span.

"It is pretty special, definitely an honor,'' Hoskins said. "I'm just glad I was able to do it in a Phillies uniform.''

Called up from Triple-A on Aug. 10, Hoskins also singled in the seventh and is batting .300 with 23 RBIs. He has tied Ryan Howard for most homers a month by a Phillies rookie. Howard had 10 in September 2005.

Hoskins is the fastest player to reach 10 home runs in major league history. He outpaced Trevor Story and George Scott (21 games) and Gary Sanchez (22 games), according to ESPN Stats & Information.
