Assault charge against Draymond Green likely to be resolved after Rio Olympics

The attorney for Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said the misdemeanor charge against him will likely be resolved after the Olympics and before the NBA season begins, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Green took part via FaceTime in a pre-trial conference Thursday to discuss the charge of misdemeanor assault or assault and battery, the newspaper reported.

Green, a Michigan State graduate, got into an altercation with former Spartan football player Jermaine Edmondson outside an East Lansing restaurant on July 10. Green is accused of slapping Edmondson.

"We're still accumulating witness' statements and we're trying to get to the bottom of this," James Heos, Green's attorney, told the paper.

No date has been set for the next hearing. Heos told The Undefeated's Marc Spears that he "stressed for dismissal" of the case in the pre-trial conference.

Heos told The Undefeated that he will continue to negotiate toward a dismissal and he added that there is no consideration being given to providing Edmondson with a financial settlement.

Heos said dialogue will continue and he is optimistic about a possible resolution next week.

Green is in Las Vegas with the USA basketball team preparing for the Olympics, which begin in Rio on Aug. 5. The basketball competition is slated for Aug. 6-21.

Edmondson, who played defensive back for the Spartans, was released from the school on July 13. In a statement announcing the release, football coach Mark Dantonio said Edmondson wanted to play a larger role on the team and felt it was in his best interest to finish his playing career elsewhere.
