Jerald Acoba wins $95K jackpot with half-court shot at Lakers game

NBA, Los Angeles Lakers

LOS ANGELES -- Jerald Acoba, a 30-year-old from Tulare, California, sank a half-court shot between the third and fourth quarters of the Los Angeles Lakers' 116-102 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night to win $95,000.

After banking in the shot, Acoba pointed to his forearm and began saying, "Ice in my veins," as a nod to Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell's signature celebration after hitting clutch shots. Acoba then high-fived several Lakers players, including Russell.

"It's good to see a lot of kids and fans keeping that going, 'ice in the veins' [celebration]," Russell said. "I appreciate everybody for that.

"That's a lot of money, man. Take care of it."

Acoba became the fifth winner of the Lakers' MGM Big Shot Jackpot, an event that began during the 2006-07 season. He's the second winner this season, as Travis Milne of Santa Maria, California, hit a half-court shot for $35,000 in November.

The jackpot grew with every missed shot since Milne's make, hence the total when Acoba's shot sank through.
