LOS ANGELES -- Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell suffered a rib contusion and missed the entire second half of Friday's 90-83 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Jazz said Mitchell's status will be updated Saturday. Mitchell suffered the injury and left the game for good with 9:05 remaining in the second quarter with the Jazz trailing 26-20 at the time.
Without Mitchell, the Jazz lost their third straight game to the Lakers at Staples Center.
"He's our leading scorer and it impacts the game," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. "But I don't think our guys -- it's not a crutch or an excuse. I like the fact that our guys kept competing ... other guys got to pick it up."
Mitchell -- who came into the game averaging 21.6 points -- left with 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals after missing seven of his first nine shots in 11 minutes. Utah (8-11) has struggled of late, losing nine of its previous 13 games. The Jazz next play at Sacramento on Sunday.
"I think we came out this year with high expectations compared to last year when we [were] underdogs," Jazz center Rudy Gobert said. "We should always have the underdog mindset, I think have the mindset of proving to everyone what we can be and prove everyone wrong. When we play that way, with a chip on our shoulder, we are at our best. It's coming, though. When you lose a few games in a row, it stings. We have a high-character locker room. Every game we come out with even more anger."
"Obviously [Mitchell] is a very good player, but we got to do [it] with the guys that are available," Gobert added. "We are still a very good team, when we play the way we should play, we should be able to win against anyone."
