Colts DL Arthur Jones suspended 4 games for PED violation

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts defensive lineman Arthur Jones has been suspended the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The league announced the suspension Friday, saying Jones has been suspended without pay.

Jones, 30, will be eligible to return to the Colts on Oct. 3, one day after their Week 4 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Jones will be eligible to participate in the Colts' preseason games and practices.

Jones' suspension is another discouraging development to come since the Colts signed him to a five-year $33 million contract in 2014. He missed all of last season after suffering an ankle injury in the third preseason game and has played a total of nine games -- all in 2014 -- with Indianapolis.

There was no guarantee Jones would be ready for the start of training camp after he sat out all of the Colts' offseason workouts while continuing to work his way back from the ankle injury.

Jones, who took a pay cut this offseason, has 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks with the Colts. He is the brother of mixed martial arts star Jon "Bones" Jones, who is facing a two-year doping suspension from the UFC.
