Vikings' Teddy Bridgewater had sore shoulder, sources say

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who missed the team's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, should be back in action soon.

According to two league sources, Bridgewater was held out with a sore shoulder on Thursday night.

Bridgewater practiced Saturday, but was only involved on running plays, and did not throw a pass. After practice, Zimmer said he was not concerned with Bridgewater's health, and reiterated that the quarterback could have played on Thursday. When asked about ESPN's report about Bridgewater sitting out with a sore shoulder, Zimmer said, "I'm not going to talk about injuries."

With Shaun Hill getting a veteran's day on Saturday, third-string quarterback Joel Stave got all of the Vikings' first-team work. The Vikings also signed former Chargers and Titans quarterback Brad Sorensen on Saturday. The team had planned to have four quarterbacks in camp, but had been practicing with three after Taylor Heinicke severed a tendon in his left foot.

The 36-year-old Hill played most of the first half on Thursday, going 10 of 17 for 129 yards in the team's 18-11 win over the Seahawks.

After the game, Zimmer would not discuss why he held Bridgewater out, only saying it was a coach's decision and that Bridgewater was not held out for disciplinary reasons.

The third-year quarterback, who posted a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in the Vikings' first preseason game against the Bengals last Friday night, practiced with the first-team offense all week before he was held out of Thursday's game.

Bridgewater also has plenty of time to recover before the Vikings' next preseason game; the team doesn't play again until Aug. 28, when it faces the San Diego Chargers in the first game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
