Colts agree to terms with CB Antonio Cromartie

NFL, Indianapolis Colts

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with cornerback Antonio Cromartie, the team announced Monday.

The signing of Cromartie comes on the same day that coach Chuck Pagano referred to the team's cornerback situation as being "not pretty" and a "little scary" because of the number of injuries the Colts have at that position.

The Colts are dealing with injuries to their projected top five cornerbacks, including Pro Bowler Vontae Davis, who is expected to miss at least the first month of the season with right ankle ligament damage, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter Monday night.

The team said during the offseason that it was going to shy away from signing veteran players because they wanted to develop the young talent on their roster. But the plethora of injuries at the position forced them to change that approach.

Cromartie arrives in Indianapolis having started 133 of the 158 games that he's appeared in during his NFL career. He started 15 games with the New York Jets last season. Cromartie, a four-time Pro Bowler, has 31 interceptions and 115 passes defended in his 10-year career.
