Sammy Watkins expected to make preseason debut Friday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins is expected to make his preseason debut Friday at the Washington Redskins, coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday.

"He probably won't be in there a whole lot, but he's scheduled to play," Ryan said. "I think he had a good day today [in practice]."

Watkins has participated in the majority of training camp practices since being taken off the active/physically unable to perform list Aug. 8, although he was held out of both of the Bills' first two preseason contests.

The third-year receiver underwent foot surgery this offseason that kept him out of organized team activities, mandatory minicamp and the first week of training camp.

Ryan also expects outside linebacker Manny Lawson (pectoral) to make his preseason debut Friday.

The Bills could be without wide receiver Marquise Goodwin in Friday's game after he left Tuesday's practice with trainers and was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol. Starting right tackle Jordan Mills (knee) and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman (quad contusion) also left Tuesday's practice, putting their status for the game in doubt.

Buffalo has also held rookie quarterback Cardale Jones out of practice this week with shoulder soreness. Ryan did not know Tuesday whether Jones would play in Friday's game.
