Colts LG Jack Mewhort exits with knee injury; team fears torn ACL

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts fear starting left guard Jack Mewhort might have suffered a torn ACL in Saturday night's 33-23 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN and multiple reports.

Mewhort suffered the injury in the third quarter. He is scheduled to have an MRI to determine whether the ACL is torn.

"I have no idea, to be honest with you, until we get the MRI back," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said of Mewhort's status.

Mewhort, 24, is a key member of what the Colts hope will be an improved offensive line. He has started all 30 games he has appeared in during his first two seasons.

Mewhort's injury capped a disappointing performance by the Colts' starting offensive line against the Eagles. It allowed three sacks and six quarterback hits on Andrew Luck's 21 dropbacks in the first half.

Pagano acknowledged the offensive line's poor play was the major reason why he pulled Luck earlier than expected.

"We didn't play well," Pagano said. "I'm disappointed like they are because we're better than that. I know we can play better than that. I'm not going to make any excuses, but we have some guys out that have been in there from a continuity standpoint. That makes a difference, having five guys in there that have been in there day after day and week after week and playing together. You start playing musical chairs again, and it's tough."
