Chiefs LB Justin Houston put on PUP, will miss at least first 6 weeks

NFL, Kansas City Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Linebacker Justin Houston was placed on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least the first six weeks of the Kansas City Chiefs' season.

Houston had surgery in February to repair a balky ACL. The Chiefs at the time gave a range for Houston's return for anywhere between six and 12 months. He has not practiced with the Chiefs or played in any preseason games this year.

"He's right around the six-month mark," trainer Rick Burkholder said. "He needs a little bit more time. This was all part of the planned process."

Houston is scheduled to be re-evaluated by Dr. James Andrews during the Chiefs' bye week after an Oct. 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"We'll reassess the situation then," Burkholder said.

Houston has led the Chiefs in sacks every season since 2012. He had 22 sacks in 2014, finishing a half-sack from the NFL single-season record. He was selected to play in the Pro Bowl in each of the past four seasons.
