Bashaud Breeland and DeAngelo Hall leave game with injuries

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Washington Redskins corner Bashaud Breeland suffered an injury to his left ankle on the second possession and will miss the remainder of Sunday's game. Additionally, safety DeAngelo Hall is out with a right knee sprain. Hall initially said his ACL was torn, but he is getting an MRI in the morning and appeared to be walking okay in the locker room.

The loss is a big blow to Washington's defensive game plan and has already had an impact. Breeland was mostly going to cover rookie Sterling Shepard in the slot with veterans Josh Norman and Greg Toler outside. Minus Breeland, Dashaun Phillips entered and allowed a touchdown pass to Shepard.

Breeland, who wore a protective walking boot on his right foot and needed crutches, said X-rays on his ankle were negative, but he will undergo an MRI Monday morning. So, too, will right guard Shawn Lauvao, who also exited wearing a walking boot. Center Kory Lichtensteiger injured his calf and left the game early in the third quarter. The Redskins aren't sure to what extent Lichtensteiger is injured.

Breeland serves as the Redskins' No. 2 corner and had come under criticism in the first two games after allowing some big catches to receivers Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh) and Dez Bryant (Dallas). If he has to miss extended time, the Redskins do have Toler to serve as the No. 2. But they'll need better play from the slot corner Phillips.
