Browns OL Alvin Bailey arrested on suspicion of OVI

Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Alvin Bailey was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of drunk driving.

Bailey failed a field sobriety test with a reading of .145, well over the legal limit in Ohio of .08, according to court documents online from the city of North Royalton, Ohio.

The Browns released a statement from vice president of football operations Sashi Brown that read: "We are aware of the incident and have spoken to Alvin to express our displeasure and extreme disappointment. This is a matter that must be taken very seriously and we will comment further at the appropriate time."

The NFL is aware of the incident. Bailey is subject to discipline under the personal conduct policy and perhaps under the substance abuse policy as well because the police report stated that marijuana was found in the car.

Bailey told police he was drinking on the team plane back from South Florida after the loss to the Dolphins, but the Browns and the NFL do not allow alcohol on the plane. A player who drinks on the team plane would be subject to team discipline. The team landed at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday, and the arrest took place at 1 a.m.

Bailey started at right guard for the first time Sunday. He replaced John Greco, who had moved to center after the injury to Cam Erving. Bailey signed with the Browns in March.

Bailey was spotted speeding in a lifted pickup truck just before 1 a.m., according to the Royalton Post, quoting a police report. The Post stated that Bailey drove to a picnic area, got out of his car, ignored commands to return to his car and instead bent under the tailgate. He stood up and was surprised to see police, the Post reported.

According to the Post, Bailey said he had been drinking at a local business and on the team plane. The police report stated that officers found what was believed to be marijuana inside the center console and in an unlocked lock box.

The documents state that Bailey was going 50 mph in a 35 zone. He will be charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding and driving an unsafe vehicle (cracked windshield). He is also charged with misdemeanor drug charges of fleeing form the police, possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse.

A court appearance is set for Bailey on all charges at 9 a.m. Thursday.
