Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed suffered a Grade 3 separation of his left shoulder, but there's still uncertainty over whether he'll have to miss any time, coach Jay Gruden said.
Reed injured his shoulder early in the second quarter of the Redskins' 31-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday and underwent an MRI Friday. Gruden first mentioned the results on his weekly radio show on ESPN980 and confirmed it via text message.
But whether Reed misses time depends on his range of motion and level of pain. The Redskins don't play again until Dec. 4 in Arizona.
Reed returned after halftime vs. Dallas, catching eight of his 10 passes in the final two quarters. Initially he was limited to third-down situations but played more toward the end of the game when Washington needed to catch up in a hurry. Reed also caught a diving 33-yard pass and two touchdowns. After the game Reed said he was in "severe pain."
Reed has missed two games this season because of a concussion and missed a combined 14 games his first three seasons because of various injuries. Those injuries early in his career factored into his desire to return Thursday.
"When I'm not out there I feel like I'm letting them down," he said. "I don't like to miss time."
