Source: Initial tests on David Johnson's knee shows meniscus damage

NFL, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams

LOS ANGELES -- Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson left Sunday's 44-6 rout of the Los Angeles Rams in the first quarter because of a left knee injury and did not return.

Initial tests on Johnson's knee showed meniscus damage, but his ACL is still intact, according to a source.

"Nothing serious, it looks like right now," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. "He'll have an MRI tomorrow. He's walking fine, and he's in good spirits. So we'll knock on wood there's no ligament damage."

He was questionable to return, per a press box announcement, but was on the sideline in the third quarter wearing a sweatshirt and a brace on his left knee over his warm-up pants. Johnson was injured with 4 minutes, 11 seconds left in the first quarter on a run that went for a 3-yard loss.

Johnson finished Sunday with 6 rushing yards and 38 receiving yards, cutting short his quest for 16 straight games in a season with 100 yards from scrimmage, which would've set an NFL record.

Johnson finished his second NFL season with 1,239 rushing yards and 879 receiving yards. He ended the year 121 receiving yards short of becoming the third player in league history with 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving in the same season.
