Seahawks agree to one-year deal with safety Bradley McDougald

The Seattle Seahawks addressed their safety depth Wednesday, agreeing to terms with Bradley McDougald.

A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan that the one-year deal is for $2 million, with $750,000 guaranteed.

Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas suffered a season-ending broken leg injury in Week 13 of last season, and was previously sidelined with a hamstring issue. Seattle's defense struggled in 2016 when Thomas was not on the field, allowing 12 touchdowns with one interception in eight games (playoffs included).

Thomas is on track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2017 season, but McDougald provides the Seahawks with some much-needed insurance.

McDougald, 26, had a career-high 91 tackles in 2016 with the Bucs, ranking second on the team. He also had three tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, a fumble recovery and two interceptions.

His fourth-quarter pick against Seattle in Week 12 sealed a 14-5 win in what was arguably the Bucs' biggest game of the season on defense. He also had two pass breakups in that game.

McDougald started 31 games over the last two seasons. He had 87 combined tackles, four pass breakups and two interceptions in 2015. He also had 50 tackles and seven pass breakups in 2014. He entered the league in 2013, signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas before being claimed by the Bucs off waivers later that season.

His greatest strength is in run support. He has shown he can be solid in coverage, too, although he's not a game-changer in that role.

The Bucs gave him a second-round tender worth $2.55 million as a restricted free agent last year.
